TradingView Bar Replay vs the Trade Lab for NQ and ES futures

TradingView Bar Replay sits inside a full charting platform; the Trade Lab is a free futures-only replay that fills paper orders on the replayed history.

Updated

The short answer

They do different jobs. TradingView Bar Replay is one feature of a charting platform with many markets, indicators and drawing tools. The Trade Lab is a single-purpose futures replay with paper trading that runs on the replayed prices.

Facts about TradingView are from its help center and pricing page, read in October 2026. We run the Lab and list what it lacks below.

What TradingView says Bar Replay does

Its help says Bar Replay lets you simulate past price movements. You click a bar to set the start, press Play, change the speed, or press Forward to advance one bar at a time. It lists chart types that do not work in replay, including Renko, Kagi, Range and footprint charts.

Depth depends on the plan and the symbol. Its replay data article says Essential has 6 months of 1-minute data and Plus has one year, while Premium and the professional plans go much further for some symbols. It also says those limits are not applied to continuous futures charts such as 1! and 2! symbols, which have their own intraday limits.

The order question

TradingView’s help says trading orders are executed using real-time data, including those in Paper Trading, and that quotes on the trading panel also show real-time data during replay. For practice that means an order placed in a replay does not fill against the history you are replaying.

In the Lab it does. The Trade tab takes market, limit and stop orders, and the replay fills them on the 1-minute bars as they are revealed, with a gap filling at the open and the stop winning a same-bar tie. Because those fills use 1-minute bars, they approximate real ones.

What the Trade Lab does not have

The Lab replays history only. It has no live data, no real order is ever placed, and it covers three markets: NQ, ES and GC. Data is 1-minute bars, so there is no tick, seconds or order-flow data, and paper fills are modelled on those 1-minute bars and approximate real fills. A replay cannot be moved backward, and the Lab has no built-in indicators.

Each account can read 40 distinct 1-minute sessions and start 5 new runs per UTC day, and it needs a verified email. The Lab itself is free.

Which one fits

Pick by the job.

  • You already use TradingView and want replay on its charts and indicators: Bar Replay is already there on the paid plans.
  • You want to practise entries, stops and targets on NQ or ES with fills that follow the replayed bars: the Lab is built for that.
  • You trade other markets or need indicators: the Lab does not cover them.
Bar Replay and the Lab can sit side by side: read the chart in one, rehearse the orders in the other.
